Pebble Beach, CA

Spyglass Hill Golf Course opened in 1966 on the Monterey Peninsula, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Its character splits cleanly in two. The first five holes run through sand dunes near the shore with ocean views and exposed wind, and the remaining 13 climb into the Del Monte Forest, tight and tree-lined with elevated greens. The dune holes are the ones golfers photograph, particularly the par-5 first, which drops toward the water, and the short par-3 third. The forest holes are where scores are lost: narrow corridors of Monterey pine and cypress, small greens and steep bunkering. It has long had a reputation as the hardest of the courses in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am rotation. Spyglass Hill is owned by the Pebble Beach Company and open to the public, with priority for resort guests. It has hosted the pro-am every year since 1967 and also serves as a qualifying venue for USGA championships.

Akron, OH

Firestone Country Club's South Course is a private club in Akron, Ohio, built for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company employees. Bert Way designed the original course in 1929, and Robert Trent Jones Sr. reworked it in 1960 ahead of its rise as a regular PGA Tour stop. It plays through a parkland setting of mature trees, narrow fairways, and deep bunkering that rewards precise shotmaking over length off the tee. The South Course has hosted more than 70 professional tournaments, including three PGA Championships and 18 years of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and it now hosts the PGA Tour Champions' Kaulig Companies Championship. Its par-5 16th, nicknamed The Monster by Arnold Palmer after a triple bogey there in the 1960 PGA Championship, remains one of the most recognized closing holes in the game. Tiger Woods closed out the 2000 WGC-NEC Invitational with an 8-iron approach on the 18th that has become one of his signature shots. Firestone is a private club, and the South Course is one of three 18-hole courses on the property along with the North Course and the Fazio Course. Kohala Coast, HI

Mauna Kea on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii opened in 1964 as a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design commissioned by Laurance Rockefeller. It was built directly on hardened lava, which had to be crushed and covered with soil before grass would grow. The par-3 third is the hole the course is known for, playing from a cliff tee across an ocean inlet to a green on the far side, with no bailout. Elsewhere the golf is long, exposed to trade winds, and framed by white sand bunkers against black rock. Rees Jones completed a renovation in 2008, rebuilding greens and bunkers while keeping his father's routing. The course is open to resort guests and public play.

Williamsburg, VA

The Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia opened in September 1963 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Operated by Colonial Williamsburg, the par-71 layout measures 6,817 yards from the back tees and includes seven holes with water hazards, highlighted by the par-3 16th, which plays to an island green with no fairway. The longest hole, the par-5 15th, stretches 634 yards from the tips. Rees Jones later renovated the course, adding modern turf and improved bunker drainage while keeping Trent Jones's original routing and green complexes.

Colorado Springs, CO

The Broadmoor Golf Club's original course, now part of its West Course routing, was designed by Donald Ross in 1916 at the base of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, commissioned by resort founder Spencer Penrose. The Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island opened in 1969 as the first course built at the resort, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and renovated by Roger Rulewich in 2002-03. The par-72 layout plays 7,005 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 74.3 and a slope of 135. The routing moves from inland lagoons to an oceanfront stretch, including the par-5 10th hole, which runs along the Atlantic with an elevated green. Seven Oaks Golf Club at Colgate University is an 18-hole public golf course on the Colgate University campus in Hamilton, New York, named for the Colgate family's ancestral home in England. The Silver Fox course is one of four golf courses at Trump National Doral Miami, a resort in Miami, Florida. It opened in 1986 and is part of the Doral golf complex alongside the Blue Monster, Red Tiger and Golden Palm courses. Water comes into play on most of the 18 holes, and the course is covered in Celebration Bermuda grass with about 50 strategically placed, marble-white sand bunkers. Narrow landing areas demand accuracy off the tee, while the greens are generally true and fast. Five sets of tees allow play from roughly 4,478 to 7,006 yards. The Lake Course at Carolina Trace Country Club is an 18-hole layout in Sanford, North Carolina, part of a private golf community built around the 315-acre Lake Trace. The Ridge Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley is an 18-hole, par-72 public course southwest of Birmingham, Alabama, built on former U.S. Steel mining land between Red Mountain and Shades Mountain. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with Roger Rulewich leading the work and opened in May 1992 as the first site on the Trail, developed by the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The Ridge plays 7,053 yards and has some of the steepest elevation change on the Trail. It shares the 54-hole property with the Valley Course and an 18-hole short course.

Williamsburg, VA

The Spotswood Course is a nine-hole layout in Williamsburg, Virginia, built to serve guests of the Williamsburg Inn. Fred Findlay designed the original nine, which opened in 1949, and Robert Trent Jones Sr. carried out a renovation in 1964 in connection with the creation of the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. The short course plays to a par of 31 across tree-lined, gently contoured ground typical of the surrounding Colonial Williamsburg property. It is managed as part of the Golden Horseshoe golf complex, which also includes the Gold and Green courses, and functions as a resort amenity available to guests and the public through the resort's golf operation.

Gaylord, MI

The Masterpiece course sits at Treetops Resort near Gaylord in northern Michigan, on land overlooking the Pigeon River Valley with heavy forests and rolling hills. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course, choosing the site in 1985 and opening it in 1987; the signature sixth hole drops about 120 feet with a wide view of the river valley below. The layout uses ravines, elevation changes and water hazards across 18 holes, playing to a par of 72 from a length of just over 7,000 yards at the back tees. The Speidel Golf Club's Jones Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia, was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and plays roughly 7,000 yards from its championship tees down to 5,515 yards forward. The course has hosted the LPGA's West Virginia Classic for eleven years and the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The Mountain Course at Incline Village Golf Resort is an 18-hole executive course in Incline Village designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in the late 1960s. Playing to a par of 58 across roughly 3,500 yards, it is the highest-elevation golf course in the Nevada portion of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
