About this course

The Heather is one of four courses at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan, and was the resort's first golf course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with associate Ron Kirby, it opened in 1966 (with some sources citing 1968) at the base of the resort's ski slopes in northern Michigan. The course is known for tree-lined doglegs, water hazards, and a demanding closing hole with a lake carry on 18, and it has hosted Michigan Amateur championships, AJGA events, and other tournaments over the decades. It plays to a par of 72 at up to roughly 7,150 yards from the back tees, with six sets of tees for a wide range of players. The Heather has been recognized with course-of-the-year honors from both state and national golf course owner associations in recent years. As part of the Boyne Highlands resort, the course is available to resort guests and members as part of a broader golf and lodging package.

Boyne Highlands Resort (Arthur Hills)

Harbor Springs, MI · 2.7 mi away

Arthur Hills Golf Course is one of four courses at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan, set in the rolling, wooded terrain of the northern Lower Peninsula near Little Traverse Bay. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1995, the layout uses natural elevation change to create dramatic downhill tee shots and views across the surrounding hills, including the par-5 13th played from a ridge above the resort's ski slopes. The course favors width off the tee, with wide, bunker-lined fairways that narrow into small, contoured greens demanding precise approach play. Holes move through mixed forest and open meadow, giving each nine a distinct character. Operated as part of Boyne's resort golf program, Arthur Hills is open to resort guests and the public, with a full practice facility on site. Cart use is standard given the terrain, and tee times are best booked in advance during the short northern Michigan season.
