About this course

Apple Rock is one of three golf courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort in the Texas Hill Country, set along the shores of Lake LBJ. It opened in 1986 as the last of three courses at the resort designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

The layout takes advantage of the highest elevations on the property, with dramatic elevation changes, mature oak and elm trees, and native granite stream beds running through several holes. Water comes into play on seven holes, and the back nine finishes along the lake, including a par 3 that plays close to the shoreline. The course was renovated by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and reopened in 2019, and it plays to a par of 72 at just under 7,000 yards from the championship tees.

Apple Rock is part of the Horseshoe Bay Resort golf offering, available to resort guests and club members rather than unrestricted public play.

Horseshoe Bay Resort (Summit Rock)

Horseshoe Bay, TX · 1.7 mi away

Summit Rock, a private, members-only course at Horseshoe Bay Resort, is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course that opened in 2012. Nicklaus designed each hole to be a “signature hole,” blending seamlessly with the scenic topography punctuated by stands of Texas live oaks. The 200-acre, par-72 course features a lower, level playing area framed by old oak trees (holes 1, 2, 13-18) and an upper, more rugged terrain with impressive views of Lake LBJ and the Hill Country (holes 3-12). The course, measuring up to 7,200 yards from the back tees, offers plenty of room off the tee but presents dramatic and intimidating approaches into well-guarded greens. Notable holes include challenging par fours at 4 and 13, tough par fives at 5 and 18, and four par threes that could each be considered a signature hole. Summit Rock is considered by many to be one of the Golden Bear’s best works, offering a unique and challenging experience in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

Horseshoe Bay Resort (Slick Rock)

Horseshoe Bay, TX · 1.9 mi away

Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed Horseshoe Bay Resort's Slickrock Golf Course, which opened in 1971. The course reflects his design philosophy of "hard par, easy bogey." It incorporates rolling granite outcroppings, creeks, and oak-lined fairways of the Texas Hill Country. The 14th hole, a par-4 known as the "Million Dollar Hole," features a 35-yard waterfall over Slick Rock Creek. Golfers drive carts behind the waterfall, then play a precise second shot to a guarded green.

Horseshoe Bay Resort - Ram Rock

Horseshoe Bay, TX · 2.1 mi away

Ram Rock is one of four courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort in the Texas Hill Country near Marble Falls, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1981. Known within the resort as "The Challenger," the par-72 layout measures 6,926 yards from the championship tees and is built in a counter-clockwise routing that gives many of its doglegs a right-to-left bend. Narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, roughly ten water hazards and rugged natural rock outcroppings define the course, along with a par-3 fourth hole played to an island green. Ram Rock has hosted the Texas State Open and other USGA qualifying and amateur events. Access runs through the resort: overnight guests and resort club members can book tee times, and some outside listings categorize the course as private rather than daily-fee public, reflecting its resort-controlled access model rather than open walk-up play.
