Bedford, PA

The golf course at Omni Bedford Springs in Bedford, Pennsylvania, has one of the longest histories in American golf. Spencer Oldham laid out the first holes in the 1890s, A.W. Tillinghast added work in the following decades, and Donald Ross reworked the course in the 1920s, leaving a layout with three separate design hands in it. The routing follows a narrow mountain valley with Shober's Run crossing it repeatedly, so the golf is dictated by the creek, the hillsides and a set of small, firm greens. It plays as a par 71 and rewards accuracy over length. Forse Design completed a full restoration in 2007, recovering original green edges, bunkering and the Ross features that had been lost over decades of change. The course is open to resort guests.

Farmington, PA

Mystic Rock is the Pete Dye course at Nemacolin in Farmington, Pennsylvania, built in the mid-1990s across the Laurel Highlands. The name comes from the sandstone boulders left across the property, which Dye kept and routed the golf around rather than removing. The course carries the features Dye is known for: railroad-tie bulkheads, water on both sides of some fairways, and small landing areas framed by rock and bunkering. Tyoga Golf Course, near downtown Wellsboro in Pennsylvania's Tioga County, traces its origins to 1923, when the club hired greenskeeper Walter Sowry to build its original nine holes on land purchased from the Matson family. The course operated for decades as Tyoga Country Club before adopting its current public name. The nine-hole layout was expanded to eighteen holes in 1979 with help from a local nonprofit, GROW, which later took over ownership of the club in 2020 to keep it operating as a golf course.
