Erin, WI

Erin Hills sits on glacial terrain in Erin, Wisconsin, about 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry and Ron Whitten designed it, and it opened in 2006 on land shaped by retreating ice into kettles, ridges and hollows, with very little earth moved to build the holes. There are no trees in play and no housing on the property, so wind is the main defense along with constant elevation change. Fairways are wide, the fescue rough is punishing, and several greens sit in natural bowls or on exposed shelves. The course is walking only, and caddies are available. Erin Hills hosted the 2011 U.S. Amateur, the 2017 U.S. Open won by Brooks Koepka at 16 under par, and the 2025 U.S. Women's Open. It is a daily fee course with on site lodging, and the USGA has scheduled further championships there, including the 2027 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and the 2035 U.S. Amateur.

Palm Desert, CA

Firecliff is the tougher of the two courses at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designed it with John Cook, and it opened in 1997. The layout plays through desert washes and native scrub rather than housing corridors, with wide fairways, sizeable waste areas and long views to the Santa Rosa Mountains. Its greens are large and heavily contoured, and the course is set up to stay firm. Desert Willow is owned by the City of Palm Desert and open to public play.

Bear Lake, MI

Arcadia Bluffs South opened in 2018 as a Dana Fry and Jason Straka design inspired by the strategic, geometric character of Chicago Golf Club. Unlike the resort's bluff-top original, this inland course uses broad fairways, fescue, squared green edges and deep, deliberately placed bunkers across open ground. The width invites aggressive lines, but approaches become more demanding when the tee shot finishes on the wrong side. The Restaurant at the South Course sits upstairs in the clubhouse overlooking the 18th green. Its casual dining room, 10-seat main bar and local draft selection make it an easy place to settle in and replay the round.

Cheektowaga, NY

Diamond Hawk Golf Course occupies former railroad land in Cheektowaga, New York, close to Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and William Kerman of the Hurdzan-Fry firm, the course opened in 2006 and offers links-style shot values with few forced carries, favoring bump-and-run approaches even to its elevated greens. The layout plays 7,058 yards from the championship tees at a par of 72, threading through housing, a municipal park and protected wetlands that come into play on the closing holes. Five sets of tees allow a wide range of playing lengths. Diamond Hawk is a public daily-fee course with a clubhouse restaurant and bar, open to walk-up and advance-booked play.

Arcadia, MI

The Dozen at Arcadia Bluffs is a 12-hole short course arranged as two six-hole loops. Its mix of par threes and par fours offers a quicker, more social alternative to the resort's two full-length courses, while broad landing areas, large greens and strategic bunkers still leave room for different lines and shots. The flexible format lets golfers play six or 12 holes. The Porch serves as The Dozen's day clubhouse, with casual food, a screened porch and patio seating. Panoramic views across the short-course property keep the golf in sight and make it an easy stop between loops or after the last hole.

Plymouth, MA

Crosswinds Golf Club sits in Plymouth, Massachusetts, roughly forty miles southeast of Boston on rolling terrain typical of the South Shore.
