Windmill Lakes Golf Club is an 18-hole public course in Ravenna, Ohio, about 20 miles east of Akron. Founded in 1970, it serves as the home course for the Kent State University men's and women's golf teams. Designed by Ed Ault, the course plays to a par of 70 over roughly 6,936 yards from the back tees, with rolling hills, more than 40 sand bunkers and several lakes set in a parkland setting. With only two par-5 holes, the layout leans on long, demanding par-4s to test accuracy off the tee and with long irons. Penn National Golf Club (Founders)

Fayetteville, PA

The Founders Course at Penn National Golf Club sits on former farmland and iron-ore mining ground in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, in the shadow of South Mountain. Edmund Ault laid out the course in 1966, and it opened for play in 1968 as a Northeastern-style design with large contoured greens and tree-lined fairways. A 7-acre lake affects play on several holes on both nines, and the course was updated with a bunker and tee renovation in 2006. The par-72 layout stretches to nearly 6,970 yards from the back tees. Founders operates as a semi-private course alongside its sister layout, Iron Forge, with an on-site inn and golf shop supporting daily play and stay-and-play packages.

Algonkian Regional Park Golf Course

Sterling, VA

Algonkian Golf Course lies along the Potomac River within Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia. Originally designed in 1962 by architect Ed Ault, the 18-hole course was acquired by NOVA Parks along with the surrounding park in 1975. A long, tree-lined front nine plays flat and straight, while the rolling back nine adds doglegs and an in-play stream across several holes. Bermuda fairways lead to large bentgrass greens, and water comes into play on a number of holes, including the par-5 sixth and the long par-3 sixteenth. Operated by NOVA Parks as a public course, Algonkian offers a driving range, putting green, cart and club rentals, and tournament and outing bookings, with tee times available online.

Quail Brook Golf Course

Somerset, NJ

Quail Brook Golf Course is one of five public courses run by the Somerset County Park Commission, located in Somerset off New Brunswick Road. Designed by Ed Ault and opened in 1982, the par-71 layout plays about 6,617 yards from the back tees. The yardage looks modest on the card, but the hilly terrain makes it play longer, especially on a back nine with dramatic elevation changes that test walkers. Undulating fairways lead to sloped greens framed by strategic bunkering, putting a premium on the short game. It is a regular host of New Jersey State Golf Association qualifiers.
