French Lick, IN

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in southern Indiana opened in 2009 on Mount Airie, the highest point in the region, at the former estate of Tom Taggart. From the elevated holes golfers can see roughly 40 miles across three states. Dye built it late in his career and made it long and exposed, with volcano bunkers, steep fall-offs and greens that shed shots toward trouble. The wind at that elevation is a constant, and the course plays close to 8,100 yards from the back tees, though almost nobody uses them. Carts with GPS and caddie service are both available given the terrain. It is one of two notable courses at the resort, alongside the 1917 Donald Ross course that hosted the 1924 PGA Championship. The Dye course has hosted the Senior LPGA Championship. Both are open to resort guests and the public.

The Fort Golf Resort is a public 18-hole course in Indianapolis, Indiana, built on the former Fort Benjamin Harrison Army post within what is now Fort Harrison State Park. Pete Dye designed the course with P.B. Dye and Tim Liddy, and it opened in 1997 on rolling, hilly terrain across roughly 238 acres. From the back tees the par-72 layout measures 7,148 yards with a course rating of 75.0 and a slope of 143. Tree-lined fairways and undulating greens run throughout the routing.

Indianapolis, IN

Brickyard Crossing Golf Course sits at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pete Dye redesigned the existing Speedway course and it reopened in 1993 as an 18-hole par 72 of about 7,047 yards. Four holes sit inside the Speedway oval itself, reached through a tunnel under the track, which makes the setting unlike any other course in the country. Dye's work is visible in the mounding, the railroad-tie and waste bunkering and the greens set above the fairway line. Little Eagle Creek runs through the outer holes. The course hosted a Champions Tour event for several years and is open to public play.

Noblesville, IN

Purgatory Golf Club is a links-style public course north of Indianapolis in Noblesville, Indiana, designed by Ron Kern and opened in 2000 on 218 acres of largely open land. From the tips it plays 7,754 yards to a par of 72, with a 78.1 course rating and 142 slope. More than 130 bunkers filled with crushed limestone line the fairways, and tall prairie grass borders much of the rough. The par-3 17th is an island green surrounded by roughly two acres of sand. Six sets of tees run from 7,754 down to about 4,562 yards.

West Lafayette, IN

Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex is a 36-hole public facility on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, comprising the Kampen-Cosler and Ackerman-Allen courses. Both eighteens were designed by Pete Dye, with Kampen-Cosler an original links-style Dye design and Ackerman-Allen a renovation of the university's historic South Course, originally built by Bill Diddle in 1934. Kampen-Cosler plays as a links-style, par-72 layout with vast bunkers, native grassland, ponds, and a natural celery bog, stretching to more than 7,400 yards from the back tees. After a 1990 flood left the old downtown under nearly 10 feet of water, the town moved to higher ground. Local residents Cary Hammond and Mark Megenity pushed to turn the empty valley into Crawford County's first golf course. Michael Hurdzan designed it. The first nine opened in 2001 and the second in 2002. The front nine is mostly flat and runs through the old town streets along the Little Blue River, while the back nine climbs into the ridges with big elevation changes. It plays 6,830 yards at par 72 from the back tees with a 132 slope. It is open to the public, about 16 miles south of French Lick and 25 miles from Sultan's Run.
