It is open year-round and has a bar and grill.

Shelby, NC

River Bend Golf Course in Shelby is run by the Cleveland County YMCA. Russell Breeden designed the par-72 course, which opened in 1965 and plays 6,555 yards from the back tees with bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways. It takes public play.

Nebo, NC

Marion Lake Club in Nebo is the only golf course on Lake James in McDowell County. The par-70 course measures about 6,300 yards, with views of Linville Gorge and Shortoff Mountain. Fairways are Bermuda and greens are bentgrass. It takes public play and has a range and Slices Bistro.

Pendleton, SC

Boscobel Golf Club is a public 18-hole course in Pendleton, South Carolina, a few minutes from Clemson University. The course opened for play in 1932 on land that once housed a larger lake and recreation complex known as Boscobel Lake and Golf Club. Over the decades the layout has been reworked by later architects, including Russell Breeden, who left his mark on the rolling terrain of Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens. The course plays to a par of 71 for men and 72 for women and measures nearly 6,500 yards, with an unusual five par-3 holes instead of the traditional four. Mature oaks and pines line the fairways, and small greens demand accurate approach shots. Water comes into play on three holes. Amenities include a clubhouse, snack bar, lounge, pro shop, driving range, and putting green, and the club offers memberships alongside daily public play.

Laurinburg, NC

Scotch Meadows Country Club in Laurinburg traces back to a Donald Ross design and was later renovated by Russell Breeden. The par-72 course plays 6,603 yards with a 129 slope, Bermuda fairways and greens. It takes public play and has a range and pro shop.

Lexington, SC

Hidden Valley Country Club is a public course in Gaston, about 15 miles from downtown Columbia. Designed by Russell Breeden and opened in 1963, the par-72 layout plays to about 6,800 yards over rolling terrain, with a tight, shot-maker's front nine and a more open back nine. The finish is one of the best in the Midlands: the risk-reward par-5 16th, a downhill par-3 17th with a long carry, and the pond-guarded par-4 18th.

Charleston, SC

Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club is a semi-private course in Charleston, carved from an original Charleston plantation and designed by Russell Breeden. Opened in 1970, the layout weaves through dense oak and hickory forest with a mosaic of ponds and streams, offering five sets of tees from about 6,500 yards down. The Champion Bermuda greens were renovated in 2003, and the generous fairways keep it playable for all levels.
