Charleston Municipal Golf Course, known locally as the Muni, sits on James Island about five miles west of downtown Charleston along the Stono River. It opened in 1929. The designer is not known for sure, though it was built at the same time Seth Raynor was working at the Country Club of Charleston and Yeamans Hall nearby. In 2020 architect Troy Miller of Miller Golf Design led a $2 million renovation. He rebuilt the greens to their original size and added template holes in the Raynor tradition, including a Punchbowl, Biarritz, Alps, Redan, Cape and Short. He also opened views along the Stono River and used short five-foot flagsticks. The Muni is the city's public course and handles 50,000 to 60,000 rounds a year.

The Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood sits about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston on land shaped by the Stono River, its salt marshes and the Intracoastal Waterway. Florida architect Ron Garl laid out the course in 1989, and its opening was delayed by Hurricane Hugo. The property carries real history: the Battle of Stono Ferry was fought here on June 20, 1779, and a Revolutionary War redoubt moved during construction now sits beside the 12th fairway, where a cannon points toward the old ferry landing. Holes 12, 13 and 14 cross the battlefield ground. Stono Ferry was named South Carolina Golf Course of the Year in 2011 and is semi-private, selling memberships alongside daily-fee public play.

The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation sits in the South Carolina Lowcountry in Summerville, a short drive from Charleston and its airport. The property is owned by the City of North Charleston and operated as a daily-fee facility with three separate nine-hole loops that can be combined into three different 18-hole rounds. The course was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan of Hurdzan/Fry Golf Course Design and opened in November 2000. Tree-lined corridors give each hole a sense of separation from the others, and traditional low bunkering and open landing areas define the strategy of play. Any combination of the three nines, named Oak Forest, Burn Kill, and Black Robin, stretches past 7,100 yards from the back markers. With at least five tee options per hole, ranging from roughly 5,100 to over 7,100 yards, the course is set up for a wide range of players. A clubhouse with a restaurant and event space sits at the center of the property, and the club regularly hosts outings and group events alongside daily public play.
