Eleven courses along the shore from Long Island to New Hampshire, none of them built after 1940 — Bethpage Black and Red, Yale, Shennecossett, Winnapaug, Triggs Memorial, South Shore, Franklin Park, George Wright and Ould Newbury. The last entry, Wentworth by the Sea, is a private club with no general public access; it is listed for its place in the story, not as a tee time you can book.
