Summit Rock, a private, members-only course at Horseshoe Bay Resort, is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course that opened in 2012. Nicklaus designed each hole to be a “signature hole,” blending seamlessly with the scenic topography punctuated by stands of Texas live oaks. The 200-acre, par-72 course features a lower, level playing area framed by old oak trees (holes 1, 2, 13-18) and an upper, more rugged terrain with impressive views of Lake LBJ and the Hill Country (holes 3-12). The course, measuring up to 7,200 yards from the back tees, offers plenty of room off the tee but presents dramatic and intimidating approaches into well-guarded greens. Notable holes include challenging par fours at 4 and 13, tough par fives at 5 and 18, and four par threes that could each be considered a signature hole. Summit Rock is considered by many to be one of the Golden Bear’s best works, offering a unique and challenging experience in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
