Wintergreen Resort (Stoney Creek)

Stoney Creek Golf Course is part of Wintergreen Resort in the Rockfish Valley of Nelson County, Virginia, set beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains a short drive from the resort's mountaintop ski area. Designed by Rees Jones, with an original 18 holes opening in 1988 and a third nine added in 1998, the course consists of three nine-hole sections named Monocan, Shamokin, and Tuckahoe.

Jones routed the holes to follow mountain streams and natural elevation change, incorporating meandering water, hardwood forest, and wetlands into play. Because many holes run uphill or downhill, yardages can play longer or shorter than the scorecard suggests, and forward tees are often recommended for a first round.

Stoney Creek operates as a public course open to all, distinct from Wintergreen's private, members-only Devils Knob course on the mountain. It is playable much of the year given Virginia's milder valley climate.
