Wintergreen Resort (Stoney Creek)

Wintergreen, VA · 11 mi away

Stoney Creek Golf Course is part of Wintergreen Resort in the Rockfish Valley of Nelson County, Virginia, set beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains a short drive from the resort's mountaintop ski area. Designed by Rees Jones, with an original 18 holes opening in 1988 and a third nine added in 1998, the course consists of three nine-hole sections named Monocan, Shamokin, and Tuckahoe. Jones routed the holes to follow mountain streams and natural elevation change, incorporating meandering water, hardwood forest, and wetlands into play. Because many holes run uphill or downhill, yardages can play longer or shorter than the scorecard suggests, and forward tees are often recommended for a first round. Stoney Creek operates as a public course open to all, distinct from Wintergreen's private, members-only Devils Knob course on the mountain. It is playable much of the year given Virginia's milder valley climate.

Lakeview Golf Course

Harrisonburg, VA · 22 mi away

Lakeview Golf Course is located just east of Harrisonburg, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley, offering three distinct nine-hole loops known as Lake, Forest, and Mountain. The Lake nine was completed in 1967 and includes views of two spring-fed irrigation ponds, while the Forest nine was built in stages through 1987 and is framed by woods on every hole. The Mountain nine, finished in 2001, opens into wider fairways and large greens with views across the Shenandoah Valley. The nines were designed by Ault Clark and feature varying elevation change, streams, and bunkering. Lakeview is a public 27-hole facility with course memberships and cart plans available for regular players. It maintains a practice complex for long game, short game, and putting work.
