About this course

TimberStone Golf Course is part of Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Jerry Matthews designed the course, which opened in the late 1990s on the side of Pine Mountain.

The layout covers about 240 acres and plays 6,937 yards at par 72 from the back tees, with a 148 slope. Fairways run through thick hardwoods, the greens have real movement, and several tees sit high above the holes below. The fourth has a deep pot bunker short and left of the green, and the par-5 18th stretches past 600 yards.

TimberStone is open to the public. It is about 100 miles from Green Bay, and the season runs roughly May through October.

Miners' 9 Golf Course

Iron River, MI · 32 mi away

The Miners' Nine is a public 9-hole golf course in Iron River, Michigan, on the site of the old Hiawatha Mine in the Upper Peninsula. Formerly known as Iron River Country Club, the course was built by mining executives in the 1930s and stayed a private retreat for decades before new ownership reopened it to the public in 2025. The layout follows an original design credited to Langford and Moreau from golf's Golden Age, and multiple tee boxes let golfers play it twice for something closer to a full round. Grounds staff have been working to restore fairways and mow lines to their earlier condition. Beyond the course, Miners' Nine includes a restaurant and bar open to golfers and non-golfers alike, plus two Trackman golf simulator suites for year-round indoor play. It remains one of the more distinctive pieces of golf history in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

McCauslin Brook Golf Course

Lakewood, WI · 42 mi away

McCauslin Brook Golf Course sits in the Nicolet National Forest area near Lakewood, Wisconsin, on land once used as a lumber camp and later a dairy farm along the stream for which it is named. The course borders the historic Holt and Balcom Logging Camp, one of the oldest surviving logging camps in the state. Don Bartels and family built the first nine holes in 1964, adding a second nine a decade later, and his sons continue to run the club today. The layout runs over rolling ground carved by the brook and several ponds, with a tighter back nine than the more open front. The 18-hole, par 70 course plays to about 6,100 yards from the back tees and is open to public, daily-fee play. Bentgrass covers both fairways and greens, and pull carts, power carts and rental clubs are all available for visitors.

Sage Run Golf Course

Bark River, MI · 43 mi away

Sage Run Golf Course is located in Bark River in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, part of the Island Resort and Casino property operated by the Hannahville Indian Community. Paul Albanese designed the course, which opened in 2018 on a 300-acre site centered on a large drumlin, a long ridge left behind by glaciers. The routing repeatedly engages the drumlin, sending holes up, down, across, and along it from different directions, and moves through pine scrub, open prairie-like ground, and hardwood forest. It complements the resort's earlier Albanese design, Sweetgrass, though the two courses have distinctly different characters. Sage Run is open for public play. It plays to a par of 72 with back-tee yardage in the mid-7,000s, and hosts a college tournament each Labor Day weekend.
