Timberstone Golf Course

Iron Mountain, MI

TimberStone Golf Course is part of Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Jerry Matthews designed the course, which opened in the late 1990s on the side of Pine Mountain. The layout covers about 240 acres and plays 6,937 yards at par 72 from the back tees, with a 148 slope. Fairways run through thick hardwoods, the greens have real movement, and several tees sit high above the holes below. The fourth has a deep pot bunker short and left of the green, and the par-5 18th stretches past 600 yards. TimberStone is open to the public. It is about 100 miles from Green Bay, and the season runs roughly May through October.

The Jewel Golf Course

Mackinac Island, MI

The Jewel is Grand Hotel's 18-hole, par-67 resort course on Mackinac Island, Michigan, open to hotel guests and the public. The Grand nine, across the street from the hotel with views of the Straits of Mackinac, was built in 1901 and redesigned in 1987 by architect Jerry Matthews, who also designed the Woods nine in the interior of the island in 1994. The two nines sit about a mile and a half apart, and players ride a horse-drawn carriage between them, the only such transfer between nines at a course in the United States. From the blue tees the course plays 5,445 yards with a 65.7 rating and 116 slope.

A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort - Sundance

Kewadin, MI

The Sundance Course at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort is set on glacier-carved bluffs near Kewadin, Michigan, between Torch Lake and Grand Traverse Bay, giving many holes views of both bodies of water. It opened in 2005, designed by Michigan architect Jerry Matthews. The 18-hole course measures roughly 6,935 yards from the back tees and features wide, playable fairways, contoured greens, large bunkers, and heather-style native rough that frames the holes without penalizing shots too severely. Hawk Hollow Golf Course

Hawk Hollow Golf Club is a 27-hole public facility in Bath, Michigan, near Lansing, and was the first course built on what became a four-course portfolio that includes the more widely known Eagle Eye Golf Club across the street. Hawk Hollow opened in 1997 on former sod farm land in mid-Michigan. The course spans more than 500 acres of rolling terrain, mature woodlands and lakes, with water hazards affecting play on the majority of its 27 holes. Combined 18-hole routings can stretch from roughly 7,000 yards at the championship tees down to about 5,000 yards from forward tees, giving golfers of varied skill levels workable options. Hawk Hollow has hosted qualifying rounds for USGA and Michigan PGA events over the years. It is open to public play and includes practice facilities alongside a clubhouse overlooking the closing holes.
