Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course
Scottish links layout on the north coast of Ohio.
About this course
Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course is located within the state park on the shores of Lake Erie. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1991, the course covers 1,850 acres of protected wetlands. The layout follows a Scottish links style with wide open fairways and tall fescue grass. The terrain is relatively flat, making it an easy walk for those who prefer to forego a cart. Water hazards come into play on many holes, particularly the 14th, which is considered the most difficult. Being situated in a state park, the facility provides sweeping views of the natural environment and local wildlife. It is part of the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center, offering a complete resort experience. The course serves both locals and visitors with a full practice facility and clubhouse.

Ottawa Park Golf Course
Toledo, OH · 12 mi away
Ottawa Park Golf Course lies within Ottawa Park in Toledo, Ohio, on parkland originally laid out along principles associated with landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. It was established in 1899 by S.P. Jermain, making it one of the oldest public golf courses in the country and the first public course in the Midwest. Jermain, known as the father of public golf in Toledo, designed the original nine holes, which expanded to eighteen between 1920 and 1921. The course hosted the first U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in 1922, and a bronze statue of Jermain stands near the first tee. The tree-lined parkland course today plays at just over 5,000 yards with subtle doglegs that reward accurate placement rather than length. It remains a city-operated public course.
South Toledo Golf Club
Toledo, OH · 15 mi away
South Toledo Golf Club is located on Heatherdowns Boulevard in Toledo, Ohio, on land that originally formed the south course of the 36-hole Heather Downs Country Club, built between 1925 and 1927. The layout was designed by William J. Rockefeller, who served as the first greens superintendent at nearby Inverness Club and is believed to have worked with Donald Ross on shaping the routing and greens. The Great Depression forced the original club to scale back its plans, and after World War II the south course was split off and opened to public play as membership at private clubs declined. In 1994, Toledo-based architect Arthur Hills redesigned three holes and added new tees. The course plays over largely flat ground, relying on mature trees and bunkering in the Ross style for its challenge, and stretches to roughly 6,500 yards from the back tees. It is open to public play with a pro shop and driving range.
