About this course

South Toledo Golf Club is located on Heatherdowns Boulevard in Toledo, Ohio, on land that originally formed the south course of the 36-hole Heather Downs Country Club, built between 1925 and 1927. The layout was designed by William J. Rockefeller, who served as the first greens superintendent at nearby Inverness Club and is believed to have worked with Donald Ross on shaping the routing and greens.

The Great Depression forced the original club to scale back its plans, and after World War II the south course was split off and opened to public play as membership at private clubs declined. In 1994, Toledo-based architect Arthur Hills redesigned three holes and added new tees.

The course plays over largely flat ground, relying on mature trees and bunkering in the Ross style for its challenge, and stretches to roughly 6,500 yards from the back tees. It is open to public play with a pro shop and driving range.
