About this course
Langston Golf Course is an 18-hole public course on Benning Road in northeast Washington, D. C., within Anacostia Park and owned by the National Park Service. It opened as a 9-hole course in June 1939, built with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration, and was expanded to 18 holes in the 1950s. Named for John Mercer Langston, the first dean of Howard University's law school, the course was central to the desegregation of public golf in Washington and is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2013 it was inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame for its role in African American golf history.
