Ted Robinson
Ted Robinson (1923-2008) was born in Long Beach, California, and earned a master's degree in planning from the University of Southern California before moving from land-use planning into golf course architecture. He became known as the "King of Waterscapes" for his signature use of cascading waterfalls and lakes, a style seen at the Desert Springs resort courses in Palm Desert and at Sahalee Country Club near Seattle, a PGA Championship venue. Robinson served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in the early 1980s during a career that produced courses across California, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii. His resort-style designs, built for both playability and visual drama, helped define a distinctly Southern Californian school of golf architecture.
