About this course

Highlands Golf Course is a public, nine-hole par-3 course at 1400 North Highlands Parkway in Tacoma, Washington, designed by Ted Robinson. The layout measures about 1,287 yards, and holes are short enough that a full round typically takes about 75 minutes. With every hole a par 3, a round offers nine hole-in-one chances, making it popular with beginners and with players working on wedges and short irons. It is the home of the Washington State Par 3 Championship, and walk-up play is open to the public.

Allenmore Public Golf Course

Tacoma, WA · 2.6 mi away

Allenmore Golf Course is a public, 18-hole course centrally located in Tacoma, Washington, at 2013 South Cedar Street. Construction began in July 1930 on land assembled by Sam Allen and William Dinsmore, whose combined names gave the course its title, with Ray Ball serving as the original architect. The course was built on rolling ground that required extensive clearing, and it was among the first Pacific Northwest courses to water fairways and greens without relying on hoses, using a dedicated pumping system and reservoir. Today the facility includes a golf shop, practice range, and the Urban Elk Restaurant & Bar, and it also hosts weddings and banquets through its events center. Golf instruction is available through PGA teaching professionals, and the course remains open to public play daily.

Madrona Links Golf Course

Gig Harbor, WA · 2.9 mi away

Madrona Links Golf Course is located on the Kitsap Peninsula near Gig Harbor, Washington, close to the Tacoma Narrows. The course sits on land the City of Tacoma leased for golf development in the late 1970s. The course was designed and built by Ken Tyson and opened to the public in 1978. Tacoma later sold the land to PenMet Parks in 2008, which continues to operate Madrona Links as a public golf course while a long-running lease and property dispute involving an adjoining parcel has played out in recent years. Madrona Links has one of the larger men's and women's club memberships in the area and hosts regular member tournaments alongside public play. It plays to a par of 71, with a longest yardage of about 6,000 yards, and includes a restaurant and lounge as well as banquet facilities.

Chambers Bay Golf Course

University Place, WA · 4.9 mi away

Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington, opened in 2007 on a former sand and gravel mine on the shore of Puget Sound. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed it for Pierce County, which owns the course, and the mining terrain left behind steep grades, sand ridges and open ground with no trees at all except a single fir near the 15th green. The course is turfed in fescue and plays firm and fast, with holes routed along and above the water and a passenger rail line running between the course and the Sound. It is walking only. Several holes have multiple green sites and tee positions, so the routing can change day to day, and one hole can play as a par 4 or a par 5. Chambers Bay hosted the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open, won by Jordan Spieth. The greens were converted from fescue to poa annua in 2018 after criticism of their condition during that Open.
