About this course
Algonkian Golf Course lies along the Potomac River within Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, Virginia. Originally designed in 1962 by architect Ed Ault, the 18-hole course was acquired by NOVA Parks along with the surrounding park in 1975. A long, tree-lined front nine plays flat and straight, while the rolling back nine adds doglegs and an in-play stream across several holes.
Bermuda fairways lead to large bentgrass greens, and water comes into play on a number of holes, including the par-5 sixth and the long par-3 sixteenth.
Operated by NOVA Parks as a public course, Algonkian offers a driving range, putting green, cart and club rentals, and tournament and outing bookings, with tee times available online.

Leesburg, VA · 5.7 mi away
The Robert Trent Jones Jr. Course at Lansdowne Resort is a 7,063-yard, par-72 resort course in Leesburg, Virginia, that opened in 1991. The tree-lined, rolling parkland layout asks golfers to judge big elevation changes throughout the round. The par-3 13th drops 50 feet from tee to green with a carry over a creek and a stone wall dating to the 1700s, and the par-3 17th requires a carry over water. The back nine also includes a pair of three-shot par 5s. The course is one of two 18-hole courses at the Golf Club at Lansdowne, alongside a Greg Norman design. Outside play is generally limited to resort guests.
Lansdowne Resort - Greg Norman Course
Leesburg, VA · 5.7 mi away
The Greg Norman Course at Lansdowne Resort is located in Leesburg, Virginia, along the Potomac River, winding through mature hardwood forest and past rocky outcroppings, with two holes touching historic sites on the property. Greg Norman designed the course using his "Least Disturbance Approach," opening in 2005 as part of the resort's 45-hole golf offering alongside a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course and a nine-hole executive layout. A demanding four-hole stretch is nicknamed "the hardest mile in golf," and the par-4 first features island tees. The course operates as part of a resort managed by Troon Golf, open to resort guests and members, with multiple tee options for a range of skill levels.
Herndon Centennial Golf Course
Herndon, VA · 5.9 mi away
Herndon Centennial Golf Course is a municipal 18-hole layout in Herndon, Virginia, a Washington D.C. suburb. The course sits on land that was on the edge of the region's development when it opened, and it is now surrounded by the built-up town. Designed by Edmund B. Ault and opened in 1979, the course has an unchanged, straightforward routing with a mix of wooded and open holes. It has hosted USGA Public Links sectional qualifiers over the years and earned Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification in 2009 for its wildlife and habitat efforts. Owned and operated by the Town of Herndon, the course is open to public play with an onsite driving range and a clubhouse restaurant. The layout plays to a par of 71 and measures 6,197 yards from the longest tees, suiting walkers and higher-handicap players as well as more experienced golfers.
