Golf courses in East Canton, OH.

East Canton, OH

Clearview Golf Club sits on about 130 acres outside East Canton, Ohio. It was designed and built by William "Bill" Powell, who began clearing the land in 1946 after returning from World War II and being denied access to other area courses because of his race; the first nine holes opened to golfers of all races in 1948, with a second nine added in 1978. Clearview remains the only golf course in the United States designed, built, owned and operated entirely by an African American family, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The par-72 course is still owned and managed by Powell's children, Renee and Larry Powell, and is open to the public for daily play.
