Canon City, CO

Four Mile Ranch Golf Club opened in 2008 on a former cattle ranch east of Canon City, Colorado, with views toward the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains. The course was designed by architect Jim Engh, known for unconventional, natural-looking layouts, and it has no traditional sand bunkers. Instead, white shale ridges called hogbacks, along with rock outcroppings and small canyons, define much of the strategy and visual character. Fairways roll with the terrain, producing uneven lies, and several greens are elevated or partially blind from the fairway. The course is open to the public and plays to a par of 72 across 18 holes. Its remote high-desert setting, about 45 minutes from Pueblo, has made it a destination course for golfers touring southern Colorado.
