About this course
Sultan's Run Golf Club is on the north side of Jasper in southern Indiana, about 24 miles from French Lick Resort, which it is affiliated with. Tim Liddy designed the course, which opened in 1992. It is named for Supreme Sultan, a champion saddlebred horse owned by Alvin Ruxer, who donated the land, and each hole is named for one of his horses.
The course moves over rolling, wooded ground with zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens, and water is in play on all four par 3s. The 18th is the one people remember, a 429-yard par 4 that bends right to a green set below the clubhouse and a large waterfall. It plays 6,859 yards at par 72 from the black tees with a 140 slope.
Sultan's Run is open to the public and was named Indiana Golf Course of the Year in 2015.

French Lick Resort - Donald Ross Course
French Lick, IN · 18 mi away
The Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort is located in French Lick, Indiana, in the rolling hills of the southern part of the state, part of a historic resort dating to the early 1900s. Donald Ross designed the course for resort founder Tom Taggart, and it opened in 1917; it hosted the 1924 PGA Championship, won by Walter Hagen. After decades of wear, the course underwent a $3.5 million restoration completed in 2006 by Lee Schmidt of Schmidt-Curley Design, working with the Donald Ross Society from original hand-drawn Ross sketches found on site, rebuilding 29 fairway bunkers and restoring square, undulating greens. The course operates as part of the French Lick Resort alongside the Pete Dye Course, open to resort guests and the public for daily-fee play.
French Lick Resort - Pete Dye Course
French Lick, IN · 18 mi away
The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in southern Indiana opened in 2009 on Mount Airie, the highest point in the region, at the former estate of Tom Taggart. From the elevated holes golfers can see roughly 40 miles across three states. Dye built it late in his career and made it long and exposed, with volcano bunkers, steep fall-offs and greens that shed shots toward trouble. The wind at that elevation is a constant, and the course plays close to 8,100 yards from the back tees, though almost nobody uses them. Carts with GPS and caddie service are both available given the terrain. It is one of two notable courses at the resort, alongside the 1917 Donald Ross course that hosted the 1924 PGA Championship. The Dye course has hosted the Senior LPGA Championship. Both are open to resort guests and the public.
The Sand Creek Course at French Lick
French Lick, IN · 18 mi away
The Sand Creek Course at French Lick, designed by the legendary Pete Dye, is a challenging 18-hole, par-72 layout that showcases Dye's distinctive architectural style. Known for his bold and often dramatic designs, Dye incorporated his signature elements of railroad ties, deep bunkers, and undulating greens into the Sand Creek Course. The course is characterized by its rugged terrain, natural wetlands, and dense woodlands, providing a secluded and immersive golfing experience. While specific signature holes are not widely publicized, Dye's courses are famous for their strategic complexity and visual intimidation, demanding precise shot-making and thoughtful course management. The Sand Creek Course offers a formidable test of golf, set amidst the natural beauty of French Lick, Indiana, making it a compelling play for those seeking a true Dye challenge.
