Split Rock Golf Course
The Bronx strategic parkland gem - great value NYC public golf.
About this course
Split Rock Golf Course is one half of the Pelham Bay and Split Rock golf complex in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx, New York City's only 36-hole public facility. The course was built with Works Progress Administration funding and opened in the mid-1930s alongside its clubhouse.
It was designed by golf architect John Van Kleek, known for hilly, tightly wooded routing; a creek crosses the course twice and the closing hole plays around one of the oldest white oak trees in the city. The layout is considered the tougher of the two courses on the property.
The course is open to the public and reachable by subway and a short car ride from Manhattan, though as with most city courses, pace of play can be slow. A restored 1936 clubhouse and stables sit near the first tee.

Sprain Lake Golf Course
Yonkers, NY · 7.8 mi away
Sprain Lake Golf Course is a Westchester County-owned public course in Yonkers, New York, located on Grassy Sprain Road in a wooded, residential part of the county. Designed by golf course architect Tom Winton, Sprain Lake has small greens and rolling terrain, with a long, narrow routing that produces a mostly linear, back-and-forth style of play. Water hazards come into play on a number of holes, adding to the course's difficulty despite its modest length. The course is operated by Westchester County's golf division alongside several sister municipal courses and is open to public play. It measures 6,110 yards from the back tees at a par of 70 over 18 holes.
Harbor Links Golf Course
Port Washington, NY · 8.2 mi away
Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington was built on the site of a former sand mine and opened in 1998 to a design by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. The links-style layout uses the exposed, sandy terrain left by more than a century of mining, including split fairways and a prominent rocky bluff. Enormous volumes of sand were extracted from the site historically for use in New York City construction. The course is public and operated by Nassau County on Long Island's North Shore.
