About this course

Summit is the original golf course at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, Michigan, built when resort founder Roy Deskin added golf to the ski and lodging business he had started on Torch Lake. William Diddel designed the course, and it opened in 1965 as the Deskin Course before later being renamed Summit.

Length is not the main challenge here; the course instead rewards a strong short game, with fast greens and a par-three tee option on every hole that makes it approachable for junior golfers. The routing winds across the rolling hills of Antrim County that also give Shanty Creek its ski terrain.

Summit operates alongside four other courses at the resort, all bookable through one golf shop, and is open to resort guests and outside visitors from April through October.

Shanty Creek Resort (Cedar River)

Bellaire, MI · 2.3 mi away

Cedar River is one of five courses at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, in northern Michigan's Antrim County. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, it opened in 1999 and is routed through rolling hills, hardwood forest and natural waterways shaped by the region's glacial terrain. The par-72 layout ranges from about 5,268 yards at the forward tees to roughly 7,000 yards from the back tees, with meaningful elevation change, strategic bunkering and water features coming into play across the round. The course has hosted the Michigan Open in recent years. Golfers can book Cedar River as a standalone tee time or combine it with lodging at The Lodge at Cedar River as part of a stay-and-play package, and the resort also offers group outings and tournament bookings. As a resort course it is open to both overnight guests and outside public players who reserve tee times through Shanty Creek's golf operations.

Shanty Creek Resort (Schuss Mountain)

Bellaire, MI · 2.6 mi away

Schuss Mountain is one of the golf courses at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, Michigan, built on land near the resort's original ski hill. It was designed by Warner Bowen and opened in 1972. The course plays almost as two different nines: the front is mostly flat and doglegs through pine forest, while the back nine climbs and drops across the rolling hills of Antrim County. Generous fairways are bordered by dense woods, and wetlands come into play on several holes, with fast greens that are often open in front for a running approach. Schuss Mountain is bookable alongside Shanty Creek's other courses through the resort's golf operation and is open to both resort guests and outside players during the golf season.

A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort - Sundance

Kewadin, MI · 9.0 mi away

The Sundance Course at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort is set on glacier-carved bluffs near Kewadin, Michigan, between Torch Lake and Grand Traverse Bay, giving many holes views of both bodies of water. It opened in 2005, designed by Michigan architect Jerry Matthews. The 18-hole course measures roughly 6,935 yards from the back tees and features wide, playable fairways, contoured greens, large bunkers, and heather-style native rough that frames the holes without penalizing shots too severely. Reviewers have noted uphill and downhill shot variety and firm, flowing fairways. Sundance is part of the larger A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, which includes multiple courses and on-site lodging in northern Michigan. The course is open to resort guests and the public, with seasonal rates and cart fees included in green fees.
