About this course

Mark Twain Golf Course is a public course in the Town of Horseheads, owned and operated by the City of Elmira, New York, and named for the author who lived nearby. It was designed by Donald Ross and built in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration project during the Great Depression.

The course has hosted golf exhibitions over the decades featuring players such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino, and its clubhouse displays historical photos documenting that history. It plays 18 holes to a par of 72.

As a municipally owned public course, Mark Twain offers standard daily-fee tee times and cart rentals through the city's parks system.
