About this course
The Wolverine is one of three golf courses at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme, Michigan, along East Grand Traverse Bay in the northern part of the state. It was designed by Gary Player, his first signature design in Michigan, and makes use of both lowland wetland terrain on the front nine and higher, wooded ground with bay views on the back nine.
The design offers four sets of tees so it can be set up for a range of ability levels, and water comes into play on more than a dozen holes because of the enhanced wetlands built into the front nine.
The Wolverine operates alongside The Bear and Spruce Run at the resort and is open each golf season to resort guests and outside visitors who book tee times through the resort's golf operation.

The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort
Acme, MI · 0.5 mi away
The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme, Michigan, is an 18-hole, par-72 resort course designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened on June 17, 1985, his first course in Michigan. It measures 7,078 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 76.1 and a slope of 150. Nicklaus's design features Scottish-style terraced fairways, tiered greens, deep grassy roughs, moguls, and pot bunkers, set among rolling land with lakes, streams, and fruit orchards. It remains open to resort guests and the public.
Elk Rapids Golf Club
Elk Rapids, MI · 9.3 mi away
Elk Rapids Golf Club is a public nine hole course on the west shore of Elk Lake in Elk Rapids, Michigan. Village residents built the course to draw tourists after voters approved a bond for the project in 1922, and architect Donald Ross designed the layout on a former farm site the following year. Construction began in 1923 and the course held its grand opening in July 1924, making it one of the older Ross designs still in operation. The par 36 routing plays a little over 3,000 yards and follows a classic out and back links style along the lakefront, taking about two hours to walk. The club is member owned through stock shares but has historically kept the course open for public play as well. A lakefront clubhouse includes a pro shop and patio space, and the course is recognized as a Michigan historical site.
Bahle Farms Golf Course
Suttons Bay, MI · 16 mi away
Bahle Farms Golf Course sits in Leelanau County near Suttons Bay, Michigan, on rolling farmland surrounded by cherry orchards with views toward Grand Traverse Bay. The public 18-hole layout was designed by Michigan architect Gary Pulsipher and opened in 1999. Significant elevation change defines the round, with holes dropping from clubhouse-area tees into valley fairways and climbing back to raised greens, including a notable descent on the 11th hole. Fairways mix open stretches with tree-lined corridors through the orchard property, and several holes route directly among the cherry trees. The course plays to a par of 71 across roughly 6,600 yards from the back tees. On-site amenities include a driving range, putting greens, a pro shop, and a restaurant with an outdoor patio. It remains open to public play with cart rental available, and its rural, working-farm setting distinguishes it from typical resort courses in the Traverse City area.
