Key West Golf Club

Key West, FL

Key West Golf Club is located on Stock Island, part of the City of Key West in Monroe County, Florida, the southernmost golf course in the continental United States. The course was built on coral rock terrain that required dynamite to clear for fairways during construction. The City of Key West purchased the land in 1923 and hired architects William Langford and Theodore Moreau to design an eighteen-hole course; only nine holes officially opened, in 1924, as the full plan was never completed for financial reasons. Additional holes were built in the 1960s, and in 1983 architect Rees Jones and co-designer Keith Evans redesigned the entire course. It has been leased and operated by the Smith family since 1994, including rebuilding after Hurricane Wilma's storm surge in 2005. Key West Golf Club is open to the public, with four sets of tees, a driving range, and a golf school for children each spring. It is recognized on the Florida Historic Golf Trail.

Knollwood Club

Lake Forest, IL · Location not mapped

Knollwood Club is a private country club on 240 rolling acres in Lake Forest, Illinois. It was incorporated in 1924 on former farmland, and its championship golf course was designed by the firm of H.S. Colt and C.H. Alison, opening for play in 1925. The design budget of roughly $10,000 per hole was notably high for the era. The club hosted the U.S. Men's Amateur in 1956, won by Harvie Ward over Ken Venturi and Charles Kocsis. The par-72 course plays about 6,920 yards from the back tees over the property's rolling terrain. Knollwood also offers tennis, swimming, and seasonal activities including skeet shooting and cross-country skiing. The club is private, with access limited to members and their guests.

Old Elm Club

Highland Park, IL

Old Elm opened in 1913 on gently rolling ground near Lake Michigan and is one of the few Harry Colt designs in North America, with Donald Ross administering construction on site. Drew Rogers began a restoration in 2010 that continues, widening the course and favoring firm turf and short-grass surrounds over rough. It is a men's club with a very low public profile and ranked No. 94 in GOLF's 2024-25 U.S. Top 100.
