Palenville, NY

Rip Van Winkle Country Club is a family-owned, public golf course in Palenville, New York, about 10 minutes from Saugerties, Woodstock, Hunter, and Catskill. The course dates to the late 1920s and is laid out on rolling ground at the foot of the Catskill Mountains. It is a nine-hole course with alternating tee positions, so golfers typically play it twice for an 18-hole round; the nine plays to about 3,000 yards at a par of 36. Fairways are gentle enough for easy walking, though motorized carts are available. The club is open to the public seven days a week, with weekend and holiday tee times recommended. A restaurant and bar on site are used for dining as well as wedding receptions and other events, run by the same family that manages the golf operation.
