The layout features ten distinct tee and green combinations so that the nine holes play differently on a second loop, with the course rated to a par of 36 either way it is played. The terrain is relatively modest in length but includes rolling ground, small greens, and a demanding opening par 3 hole along the river. Public play is available Monday through Friday before 3pm, and on weekends and holidays after 3pm, with members and their guests given priority at other times. Tee time requests go through the pro shop by phone.

It is one of only three municipally owned golf courses in the state and was designed by the New England architectural partnership of Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek.
