Hampden, ME

Hampden Country Club is a nine-hole public course in Hampden, Maine, a short drive from Bangor. It was built in 1967 by Hamm Robbins, a former dairy farmer, and has been family-operated for decades, with the Gamble family taking over ownership and operations in 1970. The layout is short and open, with generous landing areas offset by small, sloped greens that demand accuracy on approach shots. The par-5 seventh and ninth holes are guarded by mounds, bunkers and water, giving even shorter holes some teeth despite the course's modest overall length. As a public, community-oriented club, Hampden Country Club draws local leagues and casual players rather than a destination crowd. It suits golfers looking for a relaxed nine-hole round without the pretension of larger clubs in the region.
