Carrabassett Valley, ME

Sugarloaf Golf Club is set at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, within dense stands of pine, oak, maple and birch, with the Carrabassett River running alongside several holes. The mountain resort setting produces steady elevation change and panoramic views typical of western Maine. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the course, which opened in 1985 with eighteen separate, self-contained holes. Narrow fairways demand accuracy, and the back nine, including the par-3 11th nicknamed "Precipice," descends sharply from tee to green with undulating, multi-tiered putting surfaces. The course operates as a resort facility connected to Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel, open to resort guests and the public. A pro shop, driving range and on-site dining support play, and the course closes seasonally in winter for skiing.
