San Vicente sits in the hills of Ramona, about 40 minutes inland from San Diego, on a wooded property surrounded by a residential community. Ted Robinson designed the course, which opened in 1972, and it has stayed close to that original routing. The golf is old-fashioned in a good way: tree-lined corridors of mature oaks and pines, elevation change that gives you downhill tee shots and uphill approaches, and water in play on a handful of holes. It is not long, and the challenge is angles and position rather than raw distance. The inland setting means warmer, drier days than the coast and less marine layer.
