Treetops Resort (Signature)
Gaylord, MI · 0.0 mi away
The Signature course at Treetops Resort in Gaylord opened in 1993 as Rick Smith's first design at the property, drawing on Scottish and Irish links traditions. The layout moves through rolling, wooded terrain typical of northern Michigan, with green complexes considered the most demanding on the resort's grounds. It was Smith's debut championship design and helped establish Treetops as a multi-course destination alongside later Fazio, Jones and Smith layouts on site. The course remains part of Treetops' rotation open to guests and the public.
Treetops Resort (Rick Smith Signature)
Gaylord, MI · 0.0 mi away
The Rick Smith Signature course is one of several courses at Treetops Resort near Gaylord, Michigan, set on high ground shaped by ravines and wetlands in the northern part of the state. It opened in 1993 as Rick Smith's first full eighteen-hole design, built after he spent a month studying courses in Ireland and Scotland. The result is a layout with narrower fairways and some of the most contoured greens on the property, following the terrain's natural high points rather than flattening it. Holes move up and down hillsides, with several tee shots offering long views across the surrounding forest. The course is part of a resort with 81 total holes and is open to overnight guests and outside players who book tee times. A pro shop, dining, and a golf academy operate on site alongside the course.
Treetops Resort - Masterpiece
Gaylord, MI · 3.9 mi away
The Masterpiece course sits at Treetops Resort near Gaylord in northern Michigan, on land overlooking the Pigeon River Valley with heavy forests and rolling hills. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course, choosing the site in 1985 and opening it in 1987; the signature sixth hole drops about 120 feet with a wide view of the river valley below. The layout uses ravines, elevation changes and water hazards across 18 holes, playing to a par of 72 from a length of just over 7,000 yards at the back tees. It is generally considered the toughest of the resort's several courses. Masterpiece is open to the public as part of Treetops Resort, which also offers lodging and four other golf courses. Golf carts, tee-time bookings and a pro shop are available through the resort.
