Monroe Country Club is a public, city-associated course just south of downtown Monroe, North Carolina, on U.S. 601. Its front nine was laid out by Donald Ross and opened in 1936, built in part with federal relief funding during the Depression era; it is often cited as the last nine-hole course Ross designed. A back nine by architect Tom Jackson was added in the early 1980s, giving the course its current 18-hole routing. The Ross nine has small, subtly contoured greens and modest elevation change, while the Jackson nine opens into broader parkland corridors with more pronounced doglegs. The course plays to roughly 6,725 yards from the longest tees and is open daily for public play, with practice greens, a driving range, and a pro shop on site.

Carolina Lakes is an upscale daily-fee course set between the Catawba River and stands of pine, maple and oak, a few minutes south of Charlotte's Ballantyne area. Tim Freeland designed the par-72 layout, which stretches to about 7,000 yards with streams, ponds and several changes in elevation. A family tee setting turns it into a par-55 executive course, with 17 par 3s and one par 4.
