About this course
The nine-hole course at South Shore sits on the grounds of the old South Shore Country Club, a lakefront club whose clubhouse and grounds date to the early 1900s. When the private club era ended, the Chicago Park District acquired the property in the mid-1970s and opened the golf to everyone.
The course plays along the Lake Michigan shoreline with open views across the water, a flat and walkable nine holes that serves one of the South Side's busiest neighborhoods.
The former clubhouse, now the South Shore Cultural Center, is a designated Chicago Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The golf course around it remains a rare surviving piece of the city's early lakefront club history that anyone can still play.
