About this course

Seneca Golf Course is a hilly, city-owned 18-hole course in Louisville, Kentucky, set within Seneca Park along Beargrass Creek. It opened for play in 1934 and plays to a par of 72, with back tees stretching past 7,000 yards over zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens. Gary Player won his first American professional title here at the 1958 Derby City Open, and the course also hosted the 1950 U.S. Amateur Public Links and Hooters Tour events in the 1990s. It remains one of the busiest public courses in the city, with a driving range, putting green and junior golf program, and tee times can be booked online or by calling the pro shop.

Cherokee Golf Course

Louisville, KY · 1.8 mi away

Cherokee Golf Course was founded in 1895, making it the oldest public golf course in Louisville and one of the oldest municipal courses in the United States. The course sits inside Cherokee Park, the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed park that anchors the city's park system. The layout is the shortest of Louisville's Metro Parks courses — a hilly, tree-lined walk with two lake holes that rewards short-iron play over power. More than 130 years after it opened, Cherokee remains exactly what it was built to be: a public course in a public park, open to everyone in the city.

The course features Bermuda grass fairways with pronounced hills and an unusual par-36 configuration consisting of three par 3s, three par 4s, and three par 5s. A highlight of the round is the fifth hole, a 477-yard par 5 known as the quarry hole. The site is located adjacent to the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.
