Saratoga National Golf Club is located in Saratoga Springs, New York, a little over a mile from Saratoga Race Course, on a former horse farm near Lake Lonely. The property includes several lakes, lagoons and wetlands that the routing works around.
The course was designed by Roger Rulewich, a longtime associate of Robert Trent Jones Sr. who had recently formed his own firm when he was selected for the project in 1996. It opened in June 2001, with sixteen tee shots on the course requiring carries over wetlands or water, including a demanding set of long par-3 holes.
Saratoga National is a public daily-fee club offering five sets of tees to suit a range of skill levels.

The course traces to 1930, when it opened as the Queen Village Golf Club, designed with the involvement of Patrick J. Cronin, then superintendent at Glens Falls Country Club. Robert Cronin, Patrick's son, purchased the course in 1945 and added cottages to attract vacationing families, later renaming it Cronin's. A second nine was added in 1967 near the river, though repeated ice damage from spring flooding led to later rebuilding of some holes. Now run by a third generation of the Cronin family, the resort combines golf with overnight cottage accommodations and is positioned as a family vacation destination rather than a strictly golf-focused club.
