Originally built as a nine-hole course in 1902, it was rebuilt into a full 18-hole layout by architect Robert Elder in 1974, with later work by Geoffrey Cornish in the early 1990s and Bradley Booth in 2000, including a rebuilt, seawall-lined par-5 4th hole.
