Old Works Golf Club

Nicklaus design on a historic copper-smelting Superfund site

Anaconda, MT

205 Pizzini Way, Anaconda, MT 59711

About this course

Old Works Golf Club is built on the site of the Anaconda Copper smelter in Anaconda, Montana. Jack Nicklaus designed the course, which opened in 1997 as part of the reclamation of the industrial site.

The most obvious mark of that history is the bunker sand: the course uses crushed black smelter slag rather than white sand, which makes every hazard read differently from the tee. The routing crosses Warm Springs Creek several times and plays over open, rolling ground with the Pintler mountains behind.

The course is municipally owned and open to public play.
