Thoroughbred Golf Club at Double JJ Ranch
Rothbury, MI · 17 mi away
The Thoroughbred Golf Club is located at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, about six miles from Lake Michigan and roughly thirty minutes north of Grand Haven. The course opened on July 4, 1993, and was designed by architect Arthur Hills, who returned in 2016 for a ceremony renaming it the Arthur Hills Thoroughbred Golf Club. The layout runs across about 400 acres of forest, wetlands and lakes, following the natural contours of the land, and includes a par-4 second hole that wraps around a cranberry bog. The course is also known for allowing horseback riders from the resort's stables the right of way on its cart paths. Thoroughbred is part of the Double JJ Resort and operates on a semi-private basis, with tee times available to resort guests and outside golfers, stretching to about 6,887 yards from the back tees.

The Mines Golf Club

Mike DeVries, who worked under Tom Doak and Tom Fazio, designed the course, which opened in August 2005. The par-70 layout plays to about 6,700 yards through mature hardwoods with 110 feet of elevation change. Golf Digest named it a Best New Public Course Under $75 in 2006.
