About this course
Northwood Golf Club is a 9-hole, par-36 public golf course in Monte Rio, California, along the Russian River. It was designed by Alister MacKenzie with Robert Hunter and opened in 1928, commissioned so members of the nearby Bohemian Grove would have a place to play during summer gatherings. The Monte Rio course plays through towering redwoods on roughly 70 wooded acres, with narrow, tree-lined fairways and small, naturally contoured greens typical of MacKenzie's work. It is considered MacKenzie's only nine-hole design built in the United States, completed the same year as Cypress Point and five years before Augusta National.

Rooster Run Golf Club
Petaluma, CA · 27 mi away
Rooster Run Golf Club is an 18-hole public course in Petaluma, California, built on land that was formerly flat pastureland in Sonoma County wine country. The course preserved three meandering creeks lined with native willows, cottonwoods, and oaks, along with two mature oak trees, while extensive earthmoving created rolling hills and elevation change across the routing. Six lakes, numerous fairway and greenside bunkers, and the area's only island green are featured in the layout. Rooster Run is open to the public with resident and senior rate discounts, and includes a pro shop offering apparel and equipment. The course is used for outings and events in addition to daily play.
