About this course

Monarch Dunes Golf Club is a public course in Nipomo, on California's Central Coast in southern San Luis Obispo County, within the Woodlands Village master-planned community. The Old Course opened January 1, 2006, designed by architect Damian Pascuzzo with PGA Tour player Steve Pate of Pascuzzo and Pate Golf Course Design, who drew inspiration from seaside links courses of Scotland and Ireland. The course was shaped from native sand and planted with fescue grasses intended to play firm and fast in the fairways, with longer native rough providing contrasting color and texture. Unlike many real-estate-adjacent developments, the course was routed to avoid lining every fairway with houses, and several holes sit near the community's village center. It plays to a par of 71 through windswept terrain with coastal vistas and amber hillsides. An additional 12-hole, par-3 course, The Challenge, opened on the property in 2008 for shorter practice rounds.
