About this course
El Campeon is the older of two courses at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, in Florida's Lake County. George O'Neil laid out the course in 1917 and Charles E. Clark reshaped it in 1926; it is on the Florida Historic Golf Trail. The routing climbs and drops through former citrus hills, giving it elevation changes uncommon for Florida, with several holes playing sharply uphill to greens with false fronts. The par-72 layout plays 7,015 yards from the back tees with a 74.6 course rating and 142 slope. The 16th hole has an island green surrounded by sand, palms and water.

Mission Inn Resort - Las Colinas
Howey-in-the-Hills, FL · 0.0 mi away
Las Colinas is one of two golf courses at Mission Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, in the rolling hill country of Lake County, Florida. It opened in 1992 and plays across gentler, more open terrain than its sister course, El Campeon, with an inland links character of wide fairways and large, undulating greens. Oak hammocks and pines frame many holes, and elevation changes are noticeable for a Central Florida course. The layout offers risk and reward chances along with a few forced carries, including its signature par-5 called Alligator Alley. As part of a resort, the course is open to hotel guests and outside visitors who book tee times, with multiple tee options making it playable for a range of skill levels. A practice facility and golf instruction are available on site alongside the resort's lodging and dining.
Mission Resort & Club
Howey In The Hills, FL · 0.4 mi away
Mission Resort + Club, previously known as Mission Inn Resort & Club, sits on more than 500 acres in Howey-in-the-Hills in Central Florida's Lake County. Its El Campeon course dates to 1917, when developer William J. Howey hired Chicago-based architect George O'Neil to design a course to promote his citrus land development. The layout is known for unusually large elevation changes for Florida golf, along with spring-fed lakes and mature forest. It was reworked in the 1920s by Scottish architect Charles Clarke and has hosted NCAA and Florida high school championships over the years. The course operates as part of a resort property with lodging, open to resort guests and the public, alongside a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas, added in 1992.
Eagle Dunes Golf Club
Sorrento, FL · 16 mi away
Eagle Dunes Golf Club is an 18-hole course in Sorrento, Florida, north of Orlando, that opened in 2003. It was designed by architect Michael Dasher and stretches to roughly 7,024 yards from the back tees. The course is known in central Florida for elevation changes that are unusual for the region, along with wide, player-friendly fairways paired with extensive sand bunkering and occasional water hazards. Eagle Dunes operates on a public and semi-private basis with tee times available to outside players, along with a pro shop and practice facilities on site.
