About this course

Independence Golf Club sits west of Richmond in Midlothian, Virginia, and its Championship Course was designed by Tom Fazio, his first public design in the state, opening in the early 2000s. The layout offers five sets of tees ranging from about 5,000 to more than 7,100 yards and is known for fast, firm greens and demanding bunkering. Architect Lester George carried out a renovation of the course in 2014 that was later recognized among notable remodels of that year. The club also includes a nine-hole, par-3 Bear Course, also by Fazio, used for shorter rounds, footgolf and family play. Independence has hosted numerous Virginia State Golf Association championships, including State Opens and a U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifier.
