Big Bend Golf Course

Alum Creek, WV · 23 mi away

Big Bend Golf Course is located in Tornado, West Virginia, on land within a loop of the Coal River, which gives the course its name. The property was purchased in 1949 by Julius Evans, and the golf course itself was built starting in 1963 by contractor Claude Henson, opening for play in the mid-1960s. The course changed ownership in 1978 and again in 1983, when Kanawha County Parks and Recreation purchased it; the county has operated it ever since. Water from the Coal River comes into play on several holes, and the course has needed periodic riverbank repairs after flood damage. Big Bend plays as a par-71 course of roughly 6,200 yards and is open to the public, with a pro shop and snack bar on site.
