About this course

The General is one of four courses at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa in Galena, Illinois, in the state's northwest corner near the Mississippi River. It opened in 1997 and was designed by Roger Packard with input from Andy North.

The course is known for its extreme elevation change, close to 280 feet from the first tee to the eighteenth green, which produces sweeping views but makes the course difficult to walk. The fifth hole, a par 4 with roughly 180 feet of elevation drop, is the layout's signature test.

The General is open to resort guests and outside players through the resort's golf operation, alongside the resort's North, South, and East courses. It plays to a par of 72 at just under 6,730 yards from the back tees.
