Galena, IL

The General is one of four courses at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa in Galena, Illinois, in the state's northwest corner near the Mississippi River. It opened in 1997 and was designed by Roger Packard with input from Andy North. The course is known for its extreme elevation change, close to 280 feet from the first tee to the eighteenth green, which produces sweeping views but makes the course difficult to walk. The fifth hole, a par 4 with roughly 180 feet of elevation drop, is the layout's signature test. The General is open to resort guests and outside players through the resort's golf operation, alongside the resort's North, South, and East courses. It plays to a par of 72 at just under 6,730 yards from the back tees.

Timber Ridge Golf Club is a public, 18-hole course in Minocqua, Wisconsin, in the state's Northwoods region. The South Course is one of four courses at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa in Galena, Illinois, set in the rolling hills of the Galena Territory near the Mississippi River. Designed by Roger Packard, the South Course opened in 1984 and winds through a wooded valley with streams crossing 11 of its 18 holes. The par-72 layout plays to 6,762 yards from its back tees, and its finishing hole is a 406-yard par 4 played from a tee set 90 feet above a lake-guarded landing area. Though it is the shortest of Eagle Ridge's courses, it is generally considered the most demanding on accuracy. The course is open to resort guests and the public, with tee times bookable through the resort.

William Hull designed the original Eagle Nine, which opened in 1984, followed by the Osprey Nine in 1988; Jack Nicklaus added the Bear Nine in 1995. The original 18 holes hosted the USGA U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in 1994, one of only two USGA championships played in Montana, and the club has ranked among Golf Digest's Best in State courses in multiple years.
