The Links at Union Vale
Lagrangeville, NY · 11 mi away
The Links at Union Vale is a semi-private, 18-hole course in Dutchess County, about 70 miles north of New York City near the Taconic Parkway. Architect Stephen Kay built the course on roughly 200 acres of former cattle and farmland and opened it in 2000. The par-72 layout measures 6,646 yards from the back tees and sits on open, largely treeless ground with views of the Hudson Hills and Catskill Mountains. Fescue, pot bunkers and water run through the routing. The club also runs a junior golf academy and hosts weddings on site.
Apple Greens Golf Club
Highland, NY · 12 mi away
Apple Greens Golf Course occupies a former apple orchard in the town of Lloyd, near Highland, New York, in the Hudson Valley. David and Judi Carlough began construction in 1993, opening the first nine holes in 1995 and expanding to a full 18 in 1996 before later adding a nine-hole addition to bring the facility to 27 holes. The layout includes water hazards, an island green on the par-3 fifth, and views of the Shawangunk Mountains and Mohonk Lookout Tower from the clubhouse and tenth hole. Apple Greens is a public course with a driving range, two putting greens, and an on-site restaurant serving golfers and visitors.
Mohonk Mountain House Golf Course
New Paltz, NY · 12 mi away
Golf has been part of Mohonk Mountain House since 1897, when the Smiley family added a nine-hole course to the Victorian castle resort they had been building on the shore of Lake Mohonk since 1869. The resort itself is a National Historic Landmark, and the golf course is one of the oldest in continuous operation in the United States. The nine-hole layout sits on the resort grounds below the Shawangunk Ridge, with tree-lined holes that play through the mountain property rather than over it. It is a short, walkable round built for resort guests, and it plays that way: the appeal is the setting and the history more than the test of golf. The course is open to guests of Mohonk Mountain House. The property's broader history is the draw: five generations of the Smiley family have run the resort, and the grounds hosted the Lake Mohonk Conferences on International Arbitration in the years before the First World War.
